Roxas City (6 December) -- The opening ceremonies of the 2008 Sinadya sa Halaran (SSH) celebration provided another attraction for onlookers and passersby.
Roxas City Mayor Vicente Bermejo led city government officials in the ribbon cutting ceremony. He was assisted by Roxas City fiesta queen Rita Marie Felisa Ortiz Ignacio.
"Every night, hordes of people can be seen around the fountain premises taking pictures while some try to unwind by savoring the relaxing ambience of the area," said The Capiz Times news.
The main attraction of the fountain is the four sculpted horsemen painted with gold carrying a heavy arc. They are the symbols of unity and cooperation, of linking arms in times of crisis, said Roxas City Councilor Rolando Ignacio in the Capiz–based weekly paper.
Ignacio was tasked by Bermejo to rehabilitate the fountain as part of the local government initiatives to beautify the city.
The fountain was initially made public in time for the 2008 Global Peace Festival (GPF) in November prior to its Dec. 4 official exposure. (PIA/SSH Publicity and Promotions Committee)
